i'm glad that fish swam off okay. i've heard a lot stories where muskellunge put up such a fight that they fight to their own deaths. these guys fascinate me so much. thanks for posting!

They spawn well before they're 5 yrs old. I live close to Cave Run Lake and 90% of the fish that are in the lake are hatchery raised. They actually go through the spawning rituals but don't actually reproduce. Average life expectancy for Muskie here at the Cave is 11-13 yrs.

Ya I'm from northern Minnesota near the lake of the woods and never caught a Muskie but have caught a bunch of 4 foot northerns
