The lead unit that was cut off and preceded the 4449, is an SD-40R.
-
Its the same whistle. Its just more worn out now and sounds different.
-
It was repaired and it is on the 700 now.
-
A crack? I though you said its on the 700 now?
-
beatful streaml;ines locomotive..i wish they would still use it in some parts of amtrack because of her speed
-
I don't think this one is off another GS engine, it's probably the same one she's had since the Freedom train, but it developed a crack, thus changing the sound.

Loved the model re-enactment !
-
Being an HO Scale modeler, the GP9 really sounds like a P.O.S. from Tyco. Good video though.

I talked to DOYLE this past Sunday and he said the '49 had the same whistle from 1975 thru 1989. It developed a crack and so the sound became wierd. It now has a 3 chime off an NP or GN 2-8-0.

4459 was a GS-5 (GS-4 with Roller Bearings) and the whistle was passed down through private owners.
I think that engine before the 4449 is a sd45-2 not a sd9 as you had said.
