The appeal of this chant has grown on me. My college indoctrination into western tonal theory conditioned me, for the longest time, to associate joy with major keys and sorrow with minor modes. Hmmm. Music is comprised of two elements, certainly tonality, and also rhythm. If you can suspend tonal conventions for a moment or two, you can imagine the women doing a little circle dance to the original melody "O Filii et Filiae" shortly after they hear the news that Jesus is alive!

Alleluia.

Oh, and to satisfy my own theoretical prescriptions, check out what happens harmonically towards the end of the song.

Also: Here's a bless-out (like a "shout-out" but more liturgical ;) to the SNT Sunday 5pm mass regulars who send love and support---Ye sons and daughters and brothers and sisters and friends who sing with me, thank you for being you! May God bless you with good things now and always.
