The particles coming off the shuttle at the beginning of the video is cause by ice crystals that form on the canopy. When the sun light hits the side of the shuttle the ice crystals rapidly turn to liquid then gas and fly off in ball formations. Earths gravity pulls them toward the planet. The "UFO" seen at 2:20 it a geo-sat weather satellite turned so the solar collectors are pointed at the sun and away from the camera.
