http://playpoi.com When we were in Aotearoa (aka New Zealand) we made friends with a young Maori woman named Migoto (the name is Japanese). She took the time to teach us some traditional Maori poi dancing.

Playpoi offers instructional and artistic videos, poi workshops and events, gear reviews, and community resources that get you out playing poi. We even have a poi map of the world! Come visit: http://playpoi.com/community and sign up for our newsletter.

  • Why do the 'tenor' drummers of a Scots pipe band also have the same flow? except they call it 'flourishing' and not 'poi'?? if you find that an interesting question...you may find that the general idea of ' 'poi & the flow arts originated only in Aotearoa(NZ) '' may be based on an invalid deduction ~~~ please also look at the answers from India that 'JoriAcharyas' channel is trying to explore, ~ Shanti

  • Absolutely astounding.

  • I just arrived in New Zealand and I was amazed at how light their poi are. At first I thought this was just crazy but now that I've seen it in action I'm astonished at how beautiful it is.

Question: Did you ever use any of these traditional styles in your contemporary routines? If so how?

  • I love this, it's fun!

This could be a good work out to do in your room :-D

I'm already planning to work with a Bellydance workout dvd I've got, i love dance 'and culture so it's perfect.
