NASA JPL "Reality Check" on all those wacky ideas surrounding the upcoming shift in the ancient Mayan calendar. Our favorite is the planet "Nibiru" that's said to be hurtling into the solar system on its way to Earth.

  • 257 people are unable to use their brains...

  • The end of the world COULD happen this year 2012 if Iran and EU/Israel get into a war. And there is also a real asteroid (not Nibiru) coming closer to Earth in the next decades. Its has been named Apofhis. And... of course NASA wouldnt say anything IF the world where really in danger. Rationality will always be a self-tranqualizer perspective, an illusion of control and predictiveness covers our most basic fears. Science, just as religions discurse give us sense/meaning to face underlyn Caos.

  • whew so relived

  • @M2orNot And I see no reason to face a chaos that won't happen,or at least that there is no proof that will happen.

  • @aportela1980 Nice one dummy,Apophis is going to pass by Earth in the year 2029 and return on 2036.And wars are possible but cannot destroy a whole world, the previous World Wars proved that and you betrayed your own self back there by just showing it won't even be a World War.And do you really believe NASA can put a big arse black disk in front of an object and no one notices? One more thing,Religion explains the world around us and Science does it better but makes it look 'unethical'.

  • First, freedom; second, the black hole.

  • The USA is being walked into civil war. The NDAA must burn! Be ready for the call. ENGAGE the GRASS ROOTS!

  • only 258 people are dying on 2012--december

  • @mischief658 The most common 2012 claim is for massive death and destruction. Some say they are absolutely right (Patrick Geryl), which others claim the chance is so high that you would be a fool not to 'prepare'. That's not just toying, that is making claims.

And you skipped the point. Whether the 2012 claims are worth acting on is based on the evidence that backs the claims. Evidence, the 'E' word, is the bane of doomsayers everywhere.

  • @ThreeFangCat I dont think anybodys saying theres absolute proof the world is going to end in 2012... Just toying with the idea. Maybe I should just use bigger words like you to make me seem like i know what im talking about..

  • @mischief658 This said, the issue of NASA is a sideshow to a much more important issue. Whether 2012 claims are valid is fully dependent on the quality of the supporting evidence. THAT is the real issue, and one that, time and time again, doomsayers have a lot less to say about than weaving conspiracy-laden stories.

  • @mischief658 There are two aspects to this.

    1) I was pointing out that regardless of the validity of his supposedly logical construct, history proves him wrong. Information on one of the dangers he lists is fully available from NASA.

    2) The 'they wouldn't tell us' story is irrelevant becuase it tells us nothing. Doomsayers neglect to observe that if NASA would logically say the same thing if 2012 claims were false. No conclusion can thus be reached even IF the 'logic' were actually valid.
