Stolen Atheist Ads Investigated by CFI Leader in Kelowna

On Tuesday, May 3, 2011, Kelowna, British Columbia received the dubious honour of being the first city in the world in which atheists bus ads, having been approved and paid for, appeared to have been in the words of one city employee, professionally removed.

Not only did the City allow this to happen, they appeared to have had no intention of even informing us. We learned indirectly through the advertising agency - Lamar Advertising Company - that sold us the ad space and whose employee happened to call to check up on the status of the ads. We actually don't know when the ads vanished, we don't know how and we haven't the first clue what fate has become of them, and neither does anybody else apparently. Lamar is denying all responsibility. The City of kelowna and BC Transit refuse to return phone calls from the Centre for Inquiry, a paying customer of theirs with full rights to run the ads.

Did you watch the video? There was an overlaid note correcting the mistake. "You aren't just trying to create a controversy are you?"

Whoever stole the adds already created a controversy that will probably result in lots of additional publicity and show just how dishonest and insecure the people who oppose the adds are.

It's a criminal offense, a major one in monetary terms. The police should be contacted, and because of the recent court ruling and hate crime nature of the offense the appropriate federal agencies should be involved. If they were "professionally removed" then someone at the transit authority did it.
