Fast toms are shorter, for example DW 13 inch standard tom is 11x13 and fast tom is 10x13. Toms by DW are named following way, I'll tell you on the 13 inch tom example:
short tom: 6x13
traditional tom: 9x13
fast tom: 10x13
standard tom: 11x13
alternate tom: 13x13.
