Hi, I have IBM ThinkPad T43 that is almost 3 years old. I have problems with my screens backlight. While you work, screen just goes black and it takes like 2-3 minutes to find a position, when you can continue working. Is it annoying!? Hell yeah!
The funniest thing is that I have already sent my laptop to IBM service twice to fix just this particular problem but they just CAN'T fix it!!! I've sent my laptop to IBM Service 30th March. Then in the end of April I got it back. Then I sent it again. Now i got it back and problem still remains.
So:
1) This backlight issue caused be 2 month without laptop and I have still no idea if they will manage to fix it
2) During 3 years my laptop broke down 5 times so far and everything was replaced, except for screen. Looks like now its his turn.
3) In Sweden there are 2 IBM repair service: PowerMill and NovoNordic. NEVER send you laptop to NovoNordic - I guess it's just a bunch of students who has no idea what the computers are.
4) I do really like IBM for it's design. But think twice or even three timese before buying one of these
5) My friends, who has same or similar laptops never had any problems with them, but my T43 is just total crap. For the 25000SEK you get yourself really nice laptop that you need totally repair each half-year

  • @digitalblack666 exactly =)

  • @pilkjaer feel sorry for you. it's really annoying. My IBM was total crap. I think it was like 7 times on service during 3 years. Other have no problems at all. So it's probably just luck... Anyway, good luck to you with your problem!

  • pllllllllllllz help me i have the same problem that u showed in this visual...my hp compaq nx9040 laptop's screen has stopped working siddenly...but if u flash a light on it u can see a fainted screen.....plz let me know what should i do next....else evrything is working properly................plzzzzzzzzzzz help me

  • @amy15284 if u still have warranty - just go to HP-center. Otherwise cheapest will probably be to buy inventor from E-bay or similar and change it yourself. You probably can find on HP's page or somewhere on the web how to change it. At least IBM has technical documentation online, so you can see what you need to remove and in which order. But this all at your own risk of course.

You can buy inventor and just leave it to some electronic-workshop to get changed.

  • freecomputeradvise.webs.com has good techs that help you at no cost ide contact one of them they are who i use.

  • I have an ibm thinkpad R50. My lcd backlight is having problems too. What your problem looks like the wires are shorting out from opening it and close it. (Its common for old computers to have that problem.) if you can get inside it you can problaby fix it yourself. You can see if the wires are aligned perfectly. If its something els just install a new backlight (The problem's not with the LCD) you can find one for the same cost as an HDMI cable. Trust me, it cost less for you to do it yourself.

  • i got a problem with my laptop too. when i plug in my charger, the screen is black and i cant see anything. however, when my charger is not plugged in, the screen works normally but it flickers. help please :)

  • @pilkjaer Having the same problem as we speak :/ damn

  • @dltircuit Well, i had my PC on warranty, so it was free of charge. but if your warranty is over - just order inventor from EBAY and replace it yourself. instructions on how to disassemble your thinkpad can be found on thinkpads support page
