@Scottitude For canadian acts I think the most under-rated band/artist is definitely Tragically Hip and Matthew Good.
-
They are never not amazing
-
@bwho uh im american and ive seen them every time they come to buffalo, yet "we're hung up on something stupid..." unlike this comment...

Listening to 'Courage' early in the morning right now has produced joy tears once again. Absolutely incredible song by Das Hip!
-
This version of 'Courage' brings me literal tears of joy...from the time Gord sings "There's no simple...explanation...for anything important any of us do..." on to the end of the song. Simply a brilliant tune from a brilliant band. Rock and roll has never been the same since I heard my first Hip song '700 Foot Ceiling' in 1996 on that Vancouver, B.C. radio station. Rock on!

Yep-Gord's lyrics are understandable, but, if I don't get them I don't sweat it 'cause the Hip's music is so great...music's always been that way with me. I don't get real hung up on the lyrics.
-
I remember being at that game, i was only like 14 and didn't fully appreciate this music and the hip but can say that the hip not only apply to baby boomers but have a solid hold of the younger generation like mine. Gord is easily on of the best songwriters of all time, right up there with dylan, lightfoot, and lennon. Love the fact that anyone who thinks his lyrics don't makes sense usually means they're retarded and cant get it
-
I'm still sad that them and rush didn't play at the closing ceremonies of the olympics. Instead we got god damn avril lavigne and that shit tornado simple plan.
-
The Stones are good but not great. The Tragically Hip, Foghat, The Guess Who, The Drive-By Truckers and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are great bands.
-
@bwho relax the hip are great but the stones bury them, take it easy
From bar band to large arenas and all the stupid assholes in America are so hung up on ridiculous politics that they can't see the brilliance. Fluck the USA with a 500 foot pole. The Tragically Hip are the artists of the baby boomer generation and their talent exceeds that of the Rolling Stones and The Beatles.

@bwho I'll do you one better: The Hip's talent far exceeds that of any other band in history. Sure, The Beatles and a handful of others have had a significant impact on the evolution of music and pop culture but none have had more talent, energy, and timeless relevance than the "Group of Five".
The Hip are perhaps the most under-rated band in the band in the world.

This is really a great video. Follow the manic mannerisms of Gord right in to the secret known-unknown kaleidoscope of obnoxiousism towards Goliath the U.S., and you'll benefit from this video. It's really political, at least Gus the Polar Bear part is. I don't know what 'Courage' means to Gordy, if it's against the U.S. in some way. Probably is, eh? Hello from the vast western U.S. frontier of northern Nevada, where you could still walk for days and see nobody anywhere. At all. Rock solid!

@bwho "Courage" is, in essence, based on a pivotal, climactic realization by the main character of the Hugh MacLennan novel "The Watch That Ends The Night". While "Gus" is politically motivated, "Courage" is more derivative of a bittersweet romantic sacrifice for the greater good.
