There was a lot about MASH that wasn't funny.

MASH was a VERY accurate portrayal of MASH units in Korea.

Once you understand why they were like that, it becomes very sad.

The jokes, the humor. It was all done as a defense mechanism.

It was the only way they could deal with their situation, and remain sane.
