  • I love your painting video's. I am trying to learn how to paint chinese brush painting and watching you shows that I have a long way to go. Are you still using the 100 birds book from OAS? Are their any other books etc... you use that would be helpful? Are their other books or videos or youtube instructional shows you use besides the 100 birds book? my sincerist thank you.

Hello. No, the 1000 Birds by Yang O-shi was purchased in London Guanghwa, but I still flick through for reference, yes. The books I purchased from OAS are pleasant also, they are the leading international Chinese Art Book supplier and their range is stunning now.

    Thankyou for calling in. :)

  • great painting, congrats ;)

  • @shybuttcute Slow progress. But that is the fun of it. How are you anyway?

  • @sf108com "In fact, many great Chinese painting masters were self taught in our history."

Yes it is and the journey is the enjoyable part. It is the History that slowly reveals itself that I enjoy the most.

  • @sf108com "In fact, many great Chinese painting masters were self taught in our history."

Yes they were. And I imagine the ancient Masters also. China is vast. However, it is the journey and History that reveals itself that I enjoy the most. :)

  • @dipchips Well the journey is a tough one and long. But if it was not I would not enjoy it as much. I have some Videos of Masters painting sent to me by YayaYu and in these I find inspiration and much learnings.

    Thanks for the reply anyway.

  • Correct ! Once you have learned the basics then you have to experiment. with tial & error one learns step by step. Also studying the old masters & the different subjects. In fact we are our own teachers.

  • In fact, many great Chinese painting masters were self taught in our history.

  • Did you say you do not have a teacher? Oh my! you learned all of these from books? That's really amazing!

It's usually very hard for the westerners to control the "strokes". A good painter has always to practice calligraphy to get the strokes right, therefore, for the westerners who do not practice calligraphy, their "chinese Brush Paintings" usually don't look like Chinese paintings.

I know you're still learning, but you're doing a great job!
