@ClubBangerTV haha, yeah. The pedestal didn't reopen until 2004, and the statue didn't open until 2009 because it would not be possible to safely to evacuate in an emergency. For that reason, when it reopened, the number of people allowed to go to the crown was limited-- apparently so much that you have to get tickets three months in advance! They're going to close it for a year to add a second staircase so hopefully that won't be an issue in the future.

Wait a minute, it's been closed for 8 YEARS? I tried to visit the statue in 2002, but we had to leave NY early.... So, it would've been pointless anyway? I never knew it was closed for nearly a decade.
