FF IX Excalibur II Perfect Game-Pt 12b Stealing from Zaghnol

You have to steal the Needle Fork from the Zaghnol in order to get through Gizamaluke's Grotto without gaining any levels. Otherwise, I would've just committed hara-kiri in the first fight of the Festival. Also, letting Freya win gets you a Coral Ring which is pretty handy.

"Perfect game" implies max stats. Max stats means "avoid EXP like the plague". So this is not just a speedrun, it's also a modified form of the level one game. The crucial difference is that you CAN defeat Tantarian, and that the characters who gain EXP from Tantarian and Pandemonium are NOT restricted from being in the active party. Which is a necessity b/c Zidane is the only one who can absorb Abadon's EXP without losing stat potential.

I lose about thirty seconds in the Zaghnol fight by getting KO'd before I could use a Tent on him. Tents are the greatest items ever BTW. I just didn't feel like redoing the whole Festival again. It really makes it tough when each attempt takes 8 minutes to get to the hard part. And the pretty noticeable mistake near the end was way past the point of no return as far as I was concerned.

You still get the Master Hunter if Freya wins. It's actually impossible NOT to get the Master Hunter :P

isn´t it better to get 10 000 gil as zidane rather than obtaining the coral ring? Lancet isn´t that great, and the coral ring is cheaper..

You only get 5000 Gil, not 10,000 :P And the Coral Ring is better for my purposes because of teaching Insomniac and absorbing thunder.

Thanks for the advice. I've calmed down now... I got through after about thirteen attempts with about 2:10 left on the clock in the end. I was just annoyed because I had to waste so much time on something that is almost completely reliant on luck.

The guide is giving you a goal to shoot for. If you have some time to spare, don't feel the need to kill yourself to get those times. Take it from somebody who has done this challenge twice.

This is !"#¤%&/() ridiculous. I've tried this hunt TEN TIMES now, with one of the following outcomes every single time:

1. The first tent works but then stealing the Needle Fork takes more than five attempts.

2. The second tent works but Zaghnol's next attack kills Zidane anyway.

3. Neither of the first two tents thrown work.

The guide says that 2:30 is the target finishing time, you managed it in 2:00, I can't even manage it in 1:30 -_-
