  • This kicks ass! The work was still new and experimental in a sense, plus, the composer is the pianist, who best to interpret Copland but Copland?

    yes, this is a fantastic song cycle (and a total one-off on my channel that is dedicated to the piano music of Debussy. but, being a huge fan of Dickinson, I just liked it too much)

    out of sheer principle - not sure about your second point: Emil Gilels and Sviatoslav Richer played Prokofiev better than the composer himself ever could

  • Granted. I meant this not as a generalization, but applied specifically to "I felt a Funeral, in my Brain" in regard to the various renditions I have heard (so far), and Copland's ability to translate Dickinson's poetic tone in this piece into musical form.
