Listen to the original again. Listen to Rucker. That's the moment he gives in and gives up. The entire song builds to that moment. I hope you consider this and post a new version. I like your raspy tone and I think you could nail this song.

At 3:39 of this song you have the opportunity and responsibility to show the listener that you understand it. In those 5 seconds you are given the opportunity to show your range, and prove to the listener that you can empathize with the singer. Prove that you understand the lyrics and you are not simply going through the motions. Whether or not Hootie is your style of music, you need to get into the mind of the artist. That is the difference between someone who makes music and listens to it.
