Julia Murney made Elphaba.
-
... She isn't faking. She is a very strong and natural vibrato.

I love Julia so much. I believe her when she sings.

@SMSProductions1 When you say "straight tone", does that mean the strong belts where you dont hear vibrato?
I'm not very good with music or vocal terminology, but its fun learning about it.

I LOVE her AAHHH At the end. it sounds soo wicked. I believe Idina is still the best, but this woman comes close. she really made this role her own, she reminds me a lot of margaret hamilton In her acting, and vocals, if the wicked witch of the west sang, this is what i imagine shed sound like.

She is so unique when it comes to her voice, but I think that if the Elphaba from the original Wizard of Oz movie sang, this would be her voice. =)

@ngd12345 Right. And it can actually be a sign of tension if your vibrato goes in and out of straight tone.

She sounds so healthy and AMAZING here. In general she's amazing, but here she really sounds fantastic.

her voice to me just really hits spot on the voice of the character elphaba!! i LOVE her very final riff!! when she sing i really think the wicked witch of the west!!
-
nice voice, not my cup of tea

Poor Julia -- What's amazing is that, even while sick, I think her acting completely knocks ALL Elphabas out of the park.
-
@DivaBehavior She was def very sick through pretty much her whole time touring. One of my friends and directors worked with her on Evita and he came back with her horror stories from tour...girl went through a LOT.
Julia in her prime. By far. Listen to that control and power. A little much vibrato, but that adds a lot of character to her performance.
I regret that I never got to see her when she toured in Minneapolis. After she got really sick on tour, I don't think her voice was ever at this same level.
This is Julia Murney. Her stint on Broadway did nothing for her. I dunno if she got tired or what, but boy do I miss hearing audios of her sounding like this.

I know what you mean....What happends is...Wicked is one of the most vocally challenging musicals...and this is a hard song...It tends to change you voice from 8 shows a week for how ever look u do it.....Idina menzel seen it first hand cassie and julia idk she was tired

She definitely wasn't just tired. I don't think it had that much at all to do with Wicked specifically. She got terribly ill with viral laryngitis, sinusitis, then bronchitis about half-way through her time touring. I assume she caught those because of a combination of random illness, having nothing to do with touring besides maybe catching it on the plane rides, and the damage done to her immune system by the travelling and the eight shows, which is the standard for almost all shows however.
