A simple modification to the handwheel solves the problem of gettin' the tailstock on and off,, this early model 4000 Sherline lathe was sold by Sears Roebuck and co, Chicago, IL, I ordered it, along with the vertical milling column from a catalog,,, the first machining project was a small steam engine, and it runs very good, since that first project I have made hundreds of parts,,, you would think I am trying to say I like this lathe,, and I am,, it's a good machine,, the decal says Craftsman 3" lathe model 527-2142, made in the U.S.A., leave a comment, subscribe, pass it on,,

  • great idea!

  • @jhammondbeck Sherline in California still makes all the parts to fit the old lathes, they still sell them yes. They will even refurbish older or broken lathes if you send it back to them.

Is there anything that you cannot do!

You prove that country boy logic can definitely get er done.

I will confer to you a Ph.D. in Common Sense from the University of Hard Knocks.

At 55 years old, my 82 yo Dad says that I already have a Ph.D. in B.S. but I will have to work hard to attain a Master's Degree in C.S. He doubts that I will ever get my Ph.D. in C.S. I'm trying, but it is very hard and rare to attain it.

From the West Coast of Tennessee.
