Catalonia is an autonomous region in Northeast Spain. The scatological nature of some of its festivities makes Catalonia the Christmas destination of choice for adventurous travelers. Among traditional activities, witness the creation of the nativity that includes the caganer (shitter) and the shitting of the tió (Christmas log). Catalonia was an independent nation until 1714. It has been fighting for its political and cultural rights ever since.

  • Hello, I liked this video. Barbara Leonard sent me this, because Greg wanted a subscription of Catalonia Today magazine. Did you get one?

I´m Catalan, (well, half English aswell), but worn in Manlleu (which is in the video), and it´s a good video, but I didn´t know they ,made shit chocolates, and sold them in Barcelona. But I have to say that the celebration in Catalonia (Catalunya) is not all about shit, so this video is true, but a bit exagerated.

    adam.

  • Hello serafinmarin,

I have contacted Catalonia Today and I am pretty sure they are setting up my subscription. I just picked up a magazine in the US titled 'France' because it contained the article 'Catalonia Calling'. It was about Perpignan. Visca Catalunya. Greg Wilcox

  • until 1714 Catalonia had their own rights and parlament, they only shared the king with castile, that's why for example america was conquered in the name of castile and not spain, only after the defeat in 1714 where all the rights of catalonia were abolish as long as aragon's valencia's and balear island's. Before, any reference to "spain" was just a generalization used mainly by foreigners to refere to the kingdoms of the old roman province of hispania.

  • This is a delightful and informative video on Catalan culture...THANK YOU :-D

    Visca Catalunya!

  • What a shitty culture. Love it

  • @breizhcatalonia1993 we've loved Catalunya very much before this independant craze, mate... you're just greedy, spoilt and very selfish with the rest. We've admired Catalunya for years; not today. You're independant movement is making you look like rednecks to the world. More and more people are leaving because of this... you'll end up ruinning it for all of us. Catalunya never was but another region in Spain just like Bilbao, Madrid, Zaragoza and the rest of fellow regions: different but equal.

  • @pedromorenorios You even don't know how to write¡¡¡¡¡ When you want to talk about we , you must use the word INDEPENDENTISTS, and duh you hate us always so that's not a new thing, CATALUNYA is NOT your country, and yes, you are foreigners, you just come to galicia, euskadi, Catalunya and start to try to erradicate our cultures, that's what spanish think and want, all not spanish is a shit, that's just what you thing and therefore you try to eliminate it

  • @breizhcatalonia1993 por cierto, sé que me entiendes si te lo escribo en español. Los catalenes independentistas sois cada vez más paletos y provincianos... seguid así, terminaréis por arruinarlo para todos.

  • Just like you do with the rest of Spain: kick us until we shit money for you... Everyone in Spain is starting to hate Catalan Independants. Spanish people from everywhere, Albacete, Murcia, Valladolid, Bilbao or Madrid, are entitled to roam their country without having to feel like foreigners. You're just playing selfish and greedy and spoilt. BTW, christmas was yesterday... you're giving your presents out today! Is that also an independant fanatism thing?

  • @pedromorenorios we just put presents and broke the tió :)

  • @pedromorenorios learn, catalan, support our independence as we have the rights, learn catalan, integrate and become catalan if you want to stay permanently here and you will be welcome

  • @Beachman42 dude , that video is exaggerated, i myself i'm catalan and i laughed when i readed " Great shit assortments", just want to tell you that the tió don't shits, just we pack some presents into it and we broke the tió , that caganers are just a figure of the pessebre that someone invented and it has become very traditional :)

PS: Your language comes of europe and we are called Catalans not "Those wacky people in north easter spain" We are Catalan, not spanish
