I found Genki to be straight forward and fair in the introduction to Japanese Language learning. The interesting thing is An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese (AKA Genki 3) was written before Genki. I'm not sure if was just 2 or all 4 of the authors of Genki were actually students of the Authors of the Intermediate Book. So that is why some of the lessons in Genki are repeated in the Intermediate Book. P.S. Mary, Robert, Takeshi, Prof. Yamashita & the rest are in Genki 3, lol :D
@cpp1977 I think after BOTH of Genki 1 & 2, probably the lowest level if that. One may even pass the JLPT3 Test after learning the Intermediate Japanese Book (AKA Genki 3). But this is only if you really work hard or get A's in a class. Genki is only a guide though, as is any textbook, the JLPT should not be associated with a hierarchy of textbooks and stand on their own in their tests.
げんき Books have (according to my teacher) another disadvantage. There's too much english translation inside, so that Japanese mixes with English which is bad indeed, because both languages are 100% different. I believe that you'd better buy a textbook which is in Japanese ONLY. In that way, you learn to analyse the text without depending on any translation. Well, if you're a self-study student then (I don't wanna disappoint you of course), you'll probably never master Japanese..
hey I've been studying with this series for more han 6 months and I'm currently taking lesson 20... do u think this books is a great basis? or I should start with another series after I fhinish this?
@becca0668 Yes, certainly. Priority Mail international is currently $12.80 for a flat rate envelope. One $12.80 envelope can safely hold 2-3 normal sized books. BTW, Genki came out with a revised edition. I need to make a video on that! :)
To all that reads: Im planning on starting up this channel to teach Japanese going through pretty much all aspects of the "Genki" textbooks. If you are thinking about learning but dont have any teaching methods i suggest you subscribe and stay tuned for upcoming information on my Channel.
