The music to "Danke Schoen" (thank you very much in English) was composed and originally recorded by Bert Kaempfert. Lyrics were added by Kurt Schwaback and Milt Gabler, and the song was intended to be Bobby Darin's follow-up to his mega-hit "Mack The Knife". But Darin went to the Copacabana one evening to see this new kid everyone was talking about, Wayne Newton, and so taken was he by the performance that he literally gave the song to Newton and even had it re-arranged to fit Wayne's high tenor voice. This recording of "Danke Schoen" became Newton's first hit peaking at #13 during August of 1963.
