  • even alarm aren't fool safe, especially when they come on all day long from the box swaying.

  • Drove these trucks 10 years. There are alarms that go off if the body raises. Apparently there wasnt one on this truck. Driver didnt need to have the pto on if he was driving faster than 20mph anyway unless he was multitasking and lost track. Its also possible to dump a box and forget to drop it. Drive down the road with the box still on the forks. Dangersous Job. Deserves more credit than it does

  • 4:00 No blood? I would expect like a gallon of it, absolutely not complaining though for the abcent of it..

  • tragic mistake

  • My grandfather used to drive a garbage truck in the sf bay area. Those trucks built back in the 70's had a safety feature built into them at the functions on the truck such as collecting large outside garbage bins cannot be picked up unless the parking brake was on

  • I make more mistakes and have more accidents when I am tired, or sick. Since so many drivers are greedy, they want to work a million hours a week. Dispatchers like this, because they get people to work cheap, we do not get overtime pay.

  • that's a shitty way to die but at least it was instant

  • Waste Management will train you in one particular truck. Let's say your truck is broken down and unavailable for you to use for your shift. You then use a truck that is available...usually one in which the regular driver has the day off. This truck can be a totally different make and model with completely different and sometimes opposite controls. They (WM) say safety is #1 but if that's the case then spend the $ to standardize all the trucks (buy same make/model). $ is #1 with them not safety

  • Three things I was thinking about:

    1. the switch could have been set up to move in a different direction then the regularly activated switches Instead of up/down should have been forward/back for the tip switch.

2 Use a guarded switch with a cover over the tip switch.

3 A quick 1 sec look at the switch panel when operating the switch.

  • @DavidMcMahon1 Because when you dump the box you HAVE to drive forward on the tipping deck(landfill dump site) in order for the garbage to come out. The trash is compacted within the body of truck, simply opening the door and raising the box wont allow the trash to come out. You must have Forward Momentun for the trash to come out. God speed to the driver and his family, he was just trying to make a living. God speed Driver...
