A Cadillac STS bursts into flames on the 401 eastbound directly above Bayview Avenue. Both occupants escaped with only minor injuries and Toronto Fire was able to douse the flames quickly.
It is still unclear as to what exactly happened but just before 4AM Ontario Provincial Police and the Ministry of Transportation received reports of a disabled vehicle on the south shoulder of the freeway in the collector lanes well east of Bayview Avenue. A crash truck was dispatched along with an OPP unit to the disabled vehicle as a lower priority call. Minutes after the report of the disabled vehicle was received a second report indicated that there was not a possible vehicle fire on the freeway in the collector lanes. There was some initial confusion as to whether the disabled vehicle was on fire or the two calls were separate. MTO highway cameras found the fire and all responding units were updated correctly. The fire was in fact a separate call, the disabled vehicle was an SUV several hundred meters down the road from the Cadillic STS which was on fire.
I am only speculating but the two vehicles may have had a collision, the SUV continued on and stopped farther down the freeway while the STS suffered a ruptured fuel line or gas leak from the tank and spun out.
Either way Toronto Police were on the scene first as there was a nearby Court Services Wagon and a Parking Enforcement Car. I have been to many fires and this is the first time I can say two non emergency vehicles were the first responders to the scene and they even got there before the tow trucks! Incredible! Why is that so amazing? I don't know... but it just is!
Cadillac on fire, whats new.

That's what I like to see. Firefighters donning full SCBA and attacking the fire from the upwind position.

You can pinpoint the moment the cars lights go out at 0:20 when the cars lights are burned.

Idk what size they are using, but it does seem small.

@billew0481 Those are more just observations rather than bash's. Except for the new guy on the nozzle, we gotta toughen them up! BTW, is that like a forestry type hose they're using?

@ffjsb Every dept is different, no need to bash our fellow brothers, whether they do it the same way we do it or not. Stay safe.

Those aren't "Crash" trucks, they're fire engines or pumpers (depending on what the local terminology is)
4 guys on 2 lines for a simple car fire? Really? Those lines look like 1" lines or something. We use a least 1 1/2", and only one engine. The first nozzleman must be a new guy, he doesn't know how to adjust the hose stream.
