Picked up this system for $10 from Craigslist, and it already had the x-clamp replacement fix done to it. However, this is the worst attempt I have seen at an x-clamp "fix" on a system I've opened up. The guy used metal washers that were too big and instead of nylon washers, he used plastic tabs of all different sizes! It was a completely trashed job and I'm not at all surprised that the system died on him a second time.

  • I personally use 1 plastic washer on the bottom of the board and plast + metal on top. Seems to work pretty well. I use arctic silver thermal paste ftw. My success rate is about 19 good 1 bad.

  • @viciouzex Everyone has their own formula. As I said, this "fix" I believe is ok if you don't care about the system, but if you are wanting to make a business out of this you NEED to get a BGA welder.

  • cool

  • X-Clamp fix = Gimmick. It makes the system work but doesn't necessarily fix your problem.
