Auf Wiederseh'n, My Dear (Hoffman/Goodhart/Nelson/Ager)- Jack Payne & B.B.C. Dance Orchestra, voc. Jack Plant, Columbia 1932 (UK)
-----------------------------------
From nfo.net: British Big Bands Database:

Jack PAYNE (b. Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. 1899, d. Tunbridge Wells. 1969) - was an aviator in the RFC during WW1 where he organized some dance bands for the Corps. Continuing in the dance band business after the war ended, he toured with some small groups. In 1925, his 6 piece band was booked into London's Hotel Cecil and when the BBC started remote broadcasts from the Cecil, Jack enlarged the band to 10 men. Between 1928 and 1932, Jack was 'Director of Dance Music' for the BBC. (When he left, Henry Hall took over.) Later, when Jack left the BBC, he took the band with him. Ten of his sidemen did not follow but instead formed a co-op band called 'The Barnstormers', using the 'tag' "Pleasure Without Payne", until Jack got a legal injunction preventing such use. Jack Payne's Band was seen in such British made films as the 1930 picture 'Symphony In Two Flats', 1932s film 'Say It With Music' and in 1936, the film 'Sunshine Ahead'. In 1936 Jack Payne's band had a successful tour of South Africa. In 1937, Payne disbanded, retired to his Stud farm in Buckinghamshire and devoted his time to being an impressario. Payne again started touring with a 20 piece band in 1938, and was on the 'Round The Dial' radio show. He was the first British leader to take his band to entertain the troops in France at the end of 1939. In the 50's and 60's, he worked as a Disc Jockey on the BBC. He died in Dec. 1969.

  • @johnohconnor2 Jack Payne -Henry Hall -Geraldo -Oscar Rabin-Victor Sylvester were among the many English Big Bands in the 1930's and 1940's l saw many of them at the Dance Halls pre war in London -Great memories

  • great minor key arrangement. great photos. good bass sound on my stereo speakers. who is singing? like bing/russ singing better. ROGHARM i think it has the wrong phrasing. sounds that like a monotone, no range up or down. but i like it anyway.

  • That last, well-known photo in this, how Scott and Zelda totally looked alike in that profile picture, from the slant of the eyes to the slant of the mouth....its eerie! Love the song.

  • Was not aware of Jack Payne. He was GOOD. Scott and Zelda were a very attractive couple. Tks for the music and the pictures.

  • Einfach nur Klasse, ich liebe die Musik.

Bin über Fiesta von Jack Payne auf deine Seite gestossen.

    1. Klasse

  • Superb, absolutely superb.

  • START WRITING!

Then we will go to Dubai and look for billionaires. I will bring my gold lame tango shoes. I hear the Arab sheiks are very partial to blondes.

  • That would be for the wardrobe alone. Hurry and get it going before Jude Law loses all his hair. Seriously, I would love to see a movie about the Fitzgeralds from meeting and courting ....... the Paris years.... it would be wonderful! :)

  • Grzegorz, I guess my Polish is worst than I thought. I read that this was to be about Zelda and Fitzgerald, that was what I was referring to. I have the actors, Naomi Watts (Zelda), Edward Norton (Fitzgerald) and Merchant Ivory to produce it. I'm sure you could write a very romantic sophisticated book and screenplay. It would have all that Chicks demand in their Chick Flicks. You MUST do this and I think you need a little more than a Mil for Tamara.

  • Grzegorz, Why don't you write it? I wonder who could play the parts. Right after Tamaras success, they will be wanting another book and screenplay from the famous Grzegorz! You know I can tell the future, I think this will happen! :))))
