Ruth Underwood and Dweezil Zappa talk about Frank's fondness for Mallet Instruments.

This video is assembled from bits of the Apostrophe/Overnite Sensation DVD. Everybody buy it so I won't feel bad about posting it on youtube!

  • @casestudyification she doesn't play any more? The impression I got was she doesn't play the Zappa stuff any more, that's what the '30 years...' remark refers to. There's no way she'd play with that speed and accuracy if she hadn't played at all, not even picked up a pair of sticks, in 30 years.

  • Ladies and gentleman, watch Ruth

All through this video, I have been thinking...

oooh, what CAN'T she do to amaze everyone ?

    I love you Ruth Underwood!!!

  • Did she make the same 3 mistakes on the album?

  • @maynrdjkeenan Frank did tell him that. Read it in an interview.

  • This video was STUPIFYING. Zappa is still light years ahead of everybody else. Ruth is a great musician, and I can't believe she doesn't play anymore, as great as she is. Thanks for posting. Amazing.

  • "Apostrophe" was my introduction to Frank Zappa more than thirty years ago. My friend said: "Check this music out. You'll never forget it!". He was right. Thank you very much for posting this interview; Ruth and Dweezils' comments and stories are priceless. And what musicianship!

  • "it's just difficult as all hell" - couldn't have said it better!

  • @SKYVOLTAGE CHARVA! I LUV YA. I LUV YA THROO AND THROOOO

  • 3 mistakes? I don't recall one. It's as if I was listening to "Apostrophe" as recorded.

  • @sonicdeath10

not surprising - his song "trouble everyday" from the freak out album of 67 is, for all intents and purposes, one of the first rap songs ever
