Yes they enhance the laughter too.
Sitcoms have always done that. But it's taped before a live studio audience so all you naysayers have that link to prove it. I don't know why people automatically assume they don't do it anymore.

The entire background set is flipped. The kitchen is usually on the right side and Penny comes in from the wrong direction. Looking up the original clip you can see the differences. Weird...

still funny, but it is too awkward with all of the long pauses, which is why it doesn't seem as funny

The laugh track doesn't make things funny, it just makes the timing and makes a show feel more light hearted

The problem with this is that when you strip out the laughter, it leaves awkward silences. If they didn't have a studio audience the actors wouldn't pause so much. I don't think a laugh track means the show is unfunny, it's just that people like the feeling of laughing along with others. And the part where Sheldon hugs Penny would be weird if it were silent, and there are a lot other scenes in this show that just need it to fill the silence.

@sessi0000 totally agree... the laughing track/audience in the shows annoys the shit out of me but after watching this I see how much life it gives to the show... still too loud tho

A big part of comedy is timing. With the video torn up like this the timing is destroyed.
