My favourite part in Beethoven's cello sonata in D major. Adago con molto sentimento d'affetto.

Jackie with her husband - Daniel Barenboim. Perfect couple in those days...

  • You're all crazy. The one and only version to listen to s by the late, great Antonio Janigro and Jorg Demus; just the best!

  • @rtisom Crazy? Are you serious? Everyone has a right to like whatever version she / he chooses. There's nothing weird about it. Jackie and Daniel are amazing but propably they are not your cup of tea. Let's be open-mided... You made me curious though. I'll try to find the version you have mentioned.

  • This coughing ... Is really unfortunate.

  • Haha, I know. Sometimes when you're listening to such beautiful piece and you're in the middle of, kinda, spiritual expirience, and then you hear the cough, it's almost a disaster. And if this happens more then once you're wondering (and you can't help it : P) how many people can have lungs problems during the concert LOL

  • Two exceptional artists. Such a disaster Jackie Du Pré had to stop so young...

  • THE ULTIMATE VERSION! NO WORDS!!!

  • and please notice the unforgettable singing at 2:26 ..... miraculous ... even the late B . Walter could not do it better ..... perhaps K . Ferrier in Schumann with her tragic and innocent voice .... but jaqueline is so ..... how is it to explain ..... ??... how is it possible to formulate ?? I shut up . I just love you , J .

  • what is happening at 2:04 is absolutely breathtaking, quite destructive , how Du Pré is playing is beyond every imagination ..... how is it only possible to do something like that , die perfekte "umflorte Stimme" voice coming from nowhere..... and then at 4:26 , the absolute beauty : tenuto on the sole note ...... I am destroyed .... and at 4:40 , this tenuto again .... I explode , my heart is just stopping , I would like no more to exist .... JDP , you crushed me .......

  • This is wonderful!!! Richter and Piatigorsky do a pretty mean version of this!

  • Genial. Magnífica. Ela toca seu instrumento com a alma. Viva sempre...

  • muy alentador :D

  • @BSGomer I know what you mean. I'm second gongist for the Anchorage philharmonic, and though I find playing the gong deeply fulfilling, when I hear du Pre I find it difficult not to think all those thousands of grueling hours of practice might have been still better spent on the cello.

  • @TheLegence *COUGH* What was that? *COUGH*, *COUGH*, Don't think I quite under--*COUGH*stood you. *COUGH*
