How easy Blakey makes playing arrangements look, what a great drummer and leader ,most of the east coast jazz icons came through this mans bands,I saw him play twice what a jazz thrill -these days this great USA Jazz dont happen any more -

@canthinkverywell Check out some Lee Morgan, i think a couple records have Blakey on drums. Unfortunately Morgan didn't live long enough to become the icon that Blakey rightly has. His girlfriend croaked him right on the street in my neighborhood. A shame.

I love John Gilmore - totally unappreciated musician... his work with sun ra, in my opinion, places him right up there with trane (whom he influenced a great deal)Rollins and co. he could play 'outside' or 'inside'...
