Motivated by theological conviction, religious groups worldwide provide food, healthcare, shelter, education and disaster relief. Many of religious activists along with diplomats, philanthropists, and politicians see this work as peace work.

Katherine Marshall is visiting professor and senior fellow at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and Public Affairs at Georgetown University. Marshall, who worked at the World Bank from 1972 to 2006, currently advises the World Bank on issues of faith and ethics. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and has completed graduate and professional training at Harvard and Princeton.

James Morris served the United Nations as the executive director of the World Food Programme from 2002 to 2007. From 1973 through 1989 he served Lilly Endowment, Inc., as director of community development, vice president, and president. He is currently president of Pacers, Inc.
Jay Howard is dean of the Butler University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a professor of sociology with a focus on the sociology of religion.
