Fantastica performance de Carmen Miranda, cantando Caroom pa pa - Baiao, em ROMANCE CARIOCA ("Nancy Goes to Rio", 1950). Usa o famoso chapéu de mini guarda-chuvas e, reparem, canta descalça. Na minha opniao, a melhor e mais bela performance de Carmen.

Gonzaga was born in Pernambuco, Brasil and this is surely the source where the inspiration for the umbrellas came from. Little umbrellas are used by performers of "frevo" dance, another typical rythm from Pernambuco. On the final sketchs of the number above, some of the "frevo" moves can be easily recognized: look at the two clowns beside Carmem, the legs crossing (from 2'45'' - 2'51''): that's pure "frevo".

I never knew Carmem would have recorded a "baião" - in this case, a song originally released by musician and singer Luiz Gonzaga in 1946 - here with new lyrics in English. "Baião" is both the original song's title as the name of a rythm/beat.
