A St. Louis Children's Hospital doctor describes the Ponseti method for correcting club foot. This is a casting protocol in which the foot is manipulated for less than a minute, and then casted.

  • I was born with clubbed feet. I'm now fourteen, but it still affects my everyday life. This may sound stupid but it's really a big deal to a teenage girl, I can't wear heels, I can't go barefoot in front of my friends, and I just can't ever be unaware of my feet and how much they embarrass me. If you of anything I can do, if there's a doctor who can make them look normal, or any type of therapy, please message me. It'd mean the world. :/

  • @harmonysmusic From Dr. Matthew Dobbs: "Depending on what your feet look like and what prior treatment you have received, there may be things that can be done to improve your feet. I suggest you see a clubfoot specialist that could help you know what options you may have." If you'd like to request an appointment at St. Louis Children's Hospital, please all 800-678-5437.

  • so can the method work on older people cause i was born with sina bifida and i guess i have a clubbed foot i really haven't thought about it but can the ponseti method work for a 20 year old man with a clubbed foot?

  • The Ponseti method can be used in patients outside of childhood. Let me know if need further assistance.

  • (Part 2) Now that my son has had freedom of movement in his legs, he is utterly impossible to get to wear the brace at night because he got used to sleeping on his side, and he can't with the brace on. I take the bar off but leave on the shoes...will this hamper his correction?

  • The brace must include a bar between the legs. The dobbs bar often improves compliance because of ease of use and the movement that it allows the children. Let me know if you need more information.

  • I Have done all that and 9 surergys. I cant walk that far or my feet hurt so bad. I was taking pills and they dont help, so I started to smoke cannabis and that has helped so much. If u have the same problem u should try cannabis.

  • My son has the Ponseti brace but not the newer, more mobile one. He had been done casting before 3 months old. Then, because my doctors did not know about the Ponseti brace, they left him outside of casting for about a month so he could "grow into" the Markell brace, which was far too big for him and I had to find out about the Ponseti brace on my now.
