Love that tune, "Shadow of Your Smile," but God is this movie a turkey. Burton's a married Episopal minister/school headmaster who virtually throws himself at free spirit Taylor. Endless cliches. The movie treats the two characters as if they're aliens from different star systems learning each other's "language." And poor Eva Marie Saint! So much more attractive, dignified and mature than nutcase Taylor, yet Burton figuratively throws her under a truck. Dig the song, but skip the movie.
I want to see it again. Even tho the critics trashed the movie at time of its release, I still enjoy this movie. Yes, simply because of Dame EliabethTaylor and Richard Burton. Like Cleopatra, even with some bad dailouge these two are magicient actors. It was once up on youtube, on a wonderful channel dedicated to all things Dame Elizabeth Taylor that had tons of her movies. But, Youtube had the channel owner remove them. Now only clips here. Sadness. =\
