Kenyan Augustine Kiprono Choge wins in the mens 3000 meter race, despite losing his right shoes with two laps to go. Choge even made it with a World Leading time of 7minutes 32.01 seconds. At the 2008 IAAF Track and Field Doha Super Grand Prix, in Doha, Qatar. (WCSN,WCSN.com)

  • Wilson Kipketer did the same thing in the Golden League in 99. He lost his shoe at 150m and still blew them away with 650 to go.

  • Most of the Kenyans have ran bare footed before while they grew up on rough terrain so may be it helps a little bit. I am Kenyan and i started wearing shoes actively in high school. It is not that i did not own shoes but it was out of choice.

  • That was the final race, after that he definately has enough time to recover, and to add on to that very many kids in kenya play on asphalt/tarmac in blazing temperetures of 30 degrees, without shoes, the whole day and still wake up to run to school the next day........
