Arranged for cello solo and performed by Georg Mertens on 21 June 2008 at Jenolan Caves Australia.
The sheet music of "Verano Porteno" is available on the web page: http://www.georgcello.com/sheetmusic.htm

Transcribed and performed by Georg Mertens / Australia. This version of the Tango is a daring reduction from the original Nonet/Quintet to a lonely cello! The arrangement for solo guitar by Baltazar Benitez supplied the ground work for this version, which seems to have more strength of character than the guitar.

  • i think is very good, but im from argentina and i suggest you need to feel more the spirit of this song. but really good.

  • Thank you. For me Piazzolla is not a Tango writer like Gardel or other Argentinian composers, strong rhythm, but a sort of soft bounce as well. I find Piazzolla in his Nonett plays with a starkness and harshness contrasted by sweetness (as from 1.51min) For me he has picked up from Boulez some of the 20th century European love of clashes. People complain when I make stark cello sounds like that. That's ok, because I can make the sound they want very well too.
