It looks like Steve Ritchie used the High-Speed proto-type for this pinball machine or at least the figure 8 that was in the proto-type of High-Speed.

And was there a magnet at the upper flipper or was it stuck?

The tv-show actually had good ratings. It was actually an awesome show for the 80's, the time period it was made it. It buried American Gladiators in ratings its first (and last) season, a show that ended up running for years.

The reason why the Rollergames stopped was because the company that made it went under due to bad financial decisions unrelated to Rollergames.

Anyway I LOVE the song "Kick Butt" that plays when you get the jackpot or your name in highscores.

I also met Steve in person, but I didn't give a good explanation of RG. You said it best. At the time he hated it because the show itself sucked and that concealed the game's great design.

I personally thought it played like High Speed 1.5 :-)

I talked to Steve about this subject a few months ago and he clarified that he does not hate the game or think it's a bad game. He told me that he just has unpleasant memories of working on it because once the show was canceled it felt like the game was doomed, and the development team felt demoralized. He made a point of saying that despite that, it turned out to be a good (though unsuccessful) game.

The theme for this pinball SUCKS, but it plays GREAT. Steve Ritchie is my favorite designer and he even said he hates this game the most out of his others.

Maybe if the show didn't get kicked off the air before the pin was released, it would've done better.

i will say this though, in 8th grade my class went on a culmination trip to williamsburg, and they had a rollergames pinball machine in the game room of the hotel we stayed at, and yes i did get a chance to play it. (and even now, almost 7 years later, the theme song is still stuck in my head.) (in fact i THINK a clip of the show opening was up here back in early '06 (i found it a couple days after i first heard about this site.) (it got removed a couple weeks later though.)
