Long Beach gets a bold new sharrow treatment in Belmont Shore. I'm happy it's there, but apparently not everyone is.

  • I'm really very impressed. Nothing like this on any UK roads as far as I know.

Markings like this would be great my town centre. Bicycles tend to take very idiosyncratic routes - on the pavement (illegal), in the gutter, the door zone etc. And traffic doesn't even go very fast in the centre of town.

  • So, how are the sharrows working out? It's been a couple of years; more riders?

  • Don't you love these people that say "we can't afford this" but don't mind paying to add more car lanes or more parking places

  • Richmond should do this on Grove Avenue for starters

  • Nice Russ.

  • It's weird seeing 2nd street on youtube....maybe it's just weird cause i live there.....

  • I called Charlie Gandy and told him NOW would be a great time to "build a bridge" between LB and Signal Hill using Redondo Ave.

Making Redondo Avenue bicycle friendly makes sense... the streets are wide only partial sidewalks... Redondo can take one from the beach to DMV, the Health Department, Adult School, Military, DeVry and close to 90808 and 90815.

    What do YOU think?

  • If there are cars parked in parallel and you ride as far to the right as you can then if someone opens their car door you have an accident.

My first week of riding a bicycle for commuting purposes I had the same mentality, ride as far to the right and let cars easily by. On day 2 someone opened their door into me with no room to dodge (what, dodge left INTO traffic you suggest?) or to brake. The lady was lucky SHE wasn't hurt, thank god.

Riding safe isn't always riding far to the right.

  • It is great to see sharrows in the LBC. I drove down 2nd Street yesterday. There were many cyclists, but I didn't see any actually using the lane. All of the cyclists I saw were outside the green stripe in the door zone. I'm eager to take advantage of the big green stripe as soon as I can. LB cyclists need to make it a point to ride this lane and help show others how the lane was intended to work.

  • angry grandpas. my fav. SO stoked for these sharrows in LB. well done!
