I want to cry watching you in such agony... I started having muscle spasms in my back about six months ago and like you I have no clue why it is happening... I feel like my back is going to snap in two when I get them and I end up on all fours screaming in agony :( the doctor prescribed Difene (anti-inflammatory) and a muscle relaxant (Diazepam) but they are only a short term cure.. Best of luck and I hope you don't experience too many of these awful spasms in the future. X

Hi, i feel your pain as i just had my first back spasm two weeks ago and had to call an ambulance because of the pain and fear of moving just a bit as it would trigger more spasms. I hope you get over this and to others- you don't know the pain until you have one which i hope you never do, it's horrible!

I injured my back a few days ago and had these back spasms all day. We had to call an ambulance so they could inject me with muscle relaxers. I really feel for you and I hope your back is better now. I am still recovering from torn cartilage and bulging discs. Got to look after your back... you're buggered without it!

My heart goes out 2 u girl - I have had similar episodes all my life since I was abused as a toddler but most people only c us when we can walk normally and don't seem to fully understand (in my case - multiple herniated disks with nerve impingment). Last time I was like that was in 2003 and the spasms lasted 4 weeks - my wife looked after me (bathing, dressing and feeding etc) and she is now also my carer. I for 1 know how u feel and what is happening and my thoughts and prayers r with u.

is this like kramps just for the moment or what? if it is just try to stretch out the back by bending forward wouldn't it help?

@TheDezert - Only way I can describe it is the muscles in your back are pulling themselves backwards against your will. Think of rubber band that's being puled to far one way. Trying to lean forward or stretching it is pretty much out of my control. They did find though before and after a spasm if you do some very light stretches at least once a day the spasm intensity and length of time decreases.

Update 1-year later: Still having the same spasms and same problems with a little less frequency these days. Docs still have no clue, but just changed health insurances, so we'll see what they find this round. Thanks for the comments and good to you guys and your back issues!
