And don't forget it was Al's idea to do Sloop John B and of course how could we ever forget Carl's lead vocal on God Only Knows. So it wasn't exactly a Brian solo album. If it was he would have sang all the leads. The only thing that made the production of Pet Sounds any different from other Beach Boy albums other than a change in style. But also he started it without them and fished it with them!. Brian always wrote the songs and told the guys what to do!!!

And continue to be the legends they are with people still wanting to see them no matter who's in the band if it weren't for the team work by the other guys in the early days. It was never a one man band Brian wrote the music. But it was the Beach Boys as a group that made it what it was!!!

@75DrummerBoy Right, that's the thing though, it basically was a Brian Wilson solo album. He wrote all of the songs and supervised all of the musicians and then the other guys sang what he told them to. I agree that the album wouldn't the same without each of the members, but the album literally would not exist without Brian.

Just a reminder the Pet Sounds songs no matter how Mike felt about the album all those years ago. Were a Beach Boys group effort. They aren't Brian Wilson solo songs. Without the Beach Boys themselves none of it would have been possible and the album wouldn't have been so legendary!!!

LOL! Mike is not claiming he wrote Wouldn't It Be Nice himself. You seriously should go see this line up live before criticizing. I did in 09 and you wouldn't believe how many times Mike mentioned his cousin Brian just before a song. He gave him all kinds of credit that night!!!

What does the fact Mike hated Pet Sounds when it first cam out have to do with anything now? He has only been performing the music from that album for years and has no problem with it. To answer your question no they would no longer be the Beach Boys without Mike. Because the band would be over they wouldn't go on without him!!!

Incidentally, Mike Love hated Pet Sounds when it was first presented to him.

The harmonies are actually pretty good (surprisingly), I guess it's because Mike & Bruce's mics are turned to (almost) zero ...
