Schubert's Im Abendrot
Hermann Prey

O wie schön ist deine Welt,
Vater, wenn sie golden strahlet!
Wenn dein Glanz herniederfällt
Und den Staub mit Schimmer malet,
Wenn das Rot, das in der Wolke blinkt,
In mein stilles Fenster sinkt!

Könnt ich klagen, könnt ich zagen?
Irre sein an dir und mir?
Nein, ich will im Busen tragen
Deinen Himmel schon allhier.
Und dies Herz, eh es zusammenbricht,
Trinkt noch Glut und schlürft noch Licht.

How lovely is Thy world, O
Father, when it shines golden, and
Thy brightness falling on the earth
Makes it shine; when the redness
Of the glowing clouds sinks in
Through my window.

How Can I lament? How can I be afraid?
How can I doubt Thee? No, I will
carry Thy Heaven here in my
breast, that my heart, before it
breaks, may drink in the glow and
The light

  • Me gusta mas Wunderlich en esta versiòn

  • Yes, it is wonderful, I have that on CD as well, but I'm afraid as wonderful as Wunderlich is, I have a definite preference for a bartone voice. In fact it was only after I had heard Wunderlich that I decided that a tenor was acceptable. :) so nice that we have such diversity! Thank you for your comment.

  • Danke Hermann! Danke Franz!

  • What a touching sensitivity from the one who personified Figaro so brilliantly!

  • A very slow interpretation, but heartfelt and very rewarding for the patient listener. A unique baritone voice, more restrained and quite distinct from his great contemporary Fischer-Dieskau.
