Check out the keyboard rig of Deep Purple keyboardist, Don Airey. Obviuously, he uses a Hammond organ, but he also has a lot of synths on-stage. In particular, he cherishes his Moog synth, and he treats it with a couple of TC Electronic effects: a Nova Delay to create a full and rich sound and a Nova Modulator for high quality flanger effects. On the Hammond he uses a Nova Reverb for creating a classic Hammond Spring effect.

Don has kindly provided a diagram of his setup:

  • @Kingdelfrong Lord is happy doing what he does now, he was getting old, and the amount of touring had a hughes impact on his health, if Deep Purple decided to slow down a bit maby we stil had Lord behind the Hammond, but Gillan did not like the idea(what a suprise), but altough Lord is the original, Don is also a great organ player, give him a break Lord's a legend it's hard enough for him standing where Jon used to stand, I think he does a great job ;) .

  • @Hammondm100 Yeah, I was thinking the same thing after about 6:40...it sounded very Keith Emerson--loved it!

  • @progmisterdude444 "Rymes with Rogue"

Actually that is incorrect. It's Dutch, and hardly anyone pronounces it correctly, that includes the "Rogue" version. Most pronounce it closest to their native language.

So I wouldn't go around correcting people on this, if you don't want to look foolish.

  • I just LOOOOVE that ELP run at approx 7:00! From the TRILOGY album...

  • @thomasnonsense

Jon did a lot of improvisation where Don more or less plays things the same every night.

So, coupled with Mister PlainMan that's a lot of boring repetetive music.

    YAWN!!!

  • "it's so simple, even I can use it...", and he really does make it look simple.

One thing that strikes me about Don is his "closed-fisted" method. Whereas Jon was all fingers, Don's fingers seem very constrained. Of course, they pop out at the right time and hit the right notes, but it looks odd... almost like he's wearing boxing gloves.

Jon, was pioneering. There are many players, who do better what he does. Don Airey is one of them, he's school and the neat technique and knowledge.

  • Bob pronononced it Moog Rymes with Rogue not MOOOOG But Love Don just saw them In Chicago

  • Love the Hammond sound

  • @AgoAnselmo yeah that hammond solo is great! i know only the sound, not the inside from the moog! and the synth solo's from jon a long time ago are amazing too!
