The books there are really old and value. You can't allow anybody to see them! Such amazing books would be destroyed.

The so-called "secret archives" are not "secret". They simply are not open to the public. They are open to scientists and historians. They can apply to study the texts there. Some sections are periodically worked up and made available even to the public after due time. That is no peculiarity to the Vatican. The same is true for any library or museum in the world housing such old books. Or do you think anyone could waltz into the Princeton U Lib and take out a few papyri?

I'm impressed. Princeton let you take home two-thousand year old fragile manuscripts, that are now lying on you desk next to the coffee mug? Man, can I borrow your library card?
