Beginning work during July, we wanted to create a truly special Christmas ad in 2010. Last year's idea focused on people's excitement in receiving gifts, so this year we turned it on its head and made it a tribute to givers, celebrating the effort and joy involved in giving the perfect gift. At John Lewis we want to help and inspire you to find the right present for the right person.

Working with a dedicated group of set designers, camera specialists and actors, the John Lewis team was able to bring Christmas to life on a hot summer's day; this video shows you how we did it.

    They change the end after there was a load of complains about the dog, it now ends with a man getting off a bus and putting a soft toy under his coat to protect it from the snow

    makes you feel good til you see how they treat the poor dog at the end of the advert.. seriously... who in their right mind would leave a much loved pet outside in the cold and snow without even a blanket or a door on the kennel?
