Burt Lancaster's rendition of the Ernest Lehman scripted, Jame Wong Howe photographed, and Alexander Mackendrick directed "Sweet Smell of Success". In this scene we're introduced to the ominous force that is driving the entire weight of the movie, J.J Hunsecker, we are let into his world, how he cloaks his deceptive self-destructive character with candid remarks, double standards, and a false sense of entitlement to take from his friends and screw over everybody else.
Heavens to Clifford Odets! If Sidney Falco was any more oily he'd be worse for the environment than the Valdez oil spill !!! He put the "O" in odious. JJ is no slacker in that dept himself! THANKS for posting...a powerful clip from a powerful flick! Classic stuff !!!!

Don't feel bad -- I had to look it up! I've seen this movie about 20 times but couldn't remember the guy's name.

@bonzohart Wow-- you're right! I could have sworn it was Mel. And I thought I knew a lot of character actors...

@rkg77
Although it does look a LOT like Mel, it's actually a guy named Jay Adler. Fantastic movie on every level.
