Why you said that had a colony make you PROUD anyway??? FYI Timor timur is not our colony but as a new province we do not care about east timor before 1975.But there is civil war. As indonesian,I really disappointment with you because my people(was) has been used as slaves for dutch economic development for hundreds of years. The Dutch leave Indonesia in very poor condition due to the war in 1945-1949 even have to pay more than 4 billion guilders coz the Dutch East Indies debt to DUTCH

Let's face it. Colonialism is one of the worst things ever happened. It was Inhuman, barbarian, terribly greedy, absolutely unfair and so overbearingly arrogant.

In all parts of the world colonialism destroyed very old and good working structures of society and business. The world was in balance, so was the trade.

The Dutch were one of the worst colonialist. In 350 years they didn't really build up a lot in Indonesia. They were very poor developers. As a dutch, I would be ashamed!

Dutch didnt brought civilization to Indonesia,Our ancestor was civilized peoples our ancestors built huge building Borobudur,they sailed to the open ocean to east africa and madagascar since thousands years ago.

Indonesia isn't a country, it's a big colony of the people of the Island of Java, beside Java and parts of Sumatra the people didn't want the Dutch to leave, that's why the Moluqqan an Papoa's fought together with the Dutch against the Nationalist of Java. I think your wive is from Java or Sumatra, if she is saying those things. Maybe you don't know history from Indonesia, but It's just like Scotland is still under English rule.

Indonesians say goodbye to the Dutch with happiness.They treated Indonesian people badly! Im Scottish married to an Indonesian woman. We know what it was like to have some foreigner trying to rule us, we didn't allow it to happen and we were never conquered. Respect Indonesia for doing the same, showing their brave heart and claiming their right and country. Forget the emotional music and what "you think" it was like all those years ago. Hey if you dont beleive me, ask an Indonesian citizen!

@Porkion Apologists? Do you guys really know all the facts? I don't think so. The Dutch East Indies/Indonesia was never at the same level as the other colonies like Surinam or Antilles. The Indonesians didn't have the Dutch nationality, only a small percentage spoke Dutch, went to school,etc,etc. There is a difference between the Dutch-East Indiës and Indonesia of today, but its still not that big....its in a different way still colonial, only its not the Dutch now.
