This video explains how the concept of parenting in Hinduism changed from time to time and offers some historical examples to suggest the status of parents and children in vedic times and why it is not a good idea to be judgmental about the subject. Also explained are the ideals of parenthood, the relationship between parents and children according to Hindu religion, how children choose their parents before coming into this world and how parents should treat their children in the context of rebirth and karma. The last part of the Video describes three types of parents according to their gunas, namely sattva, rajas and tamas, how they treat their children and which of their approaches is the best. The central idea presented in the last part is that the ultimate aim of human life is to free ourselves from all attachment and become. So we have to overcome our attachment with our children as we progress into vanaprastha or the life of a recluse. The video ends with the conclusion that Hindu parenting values are based on duty, dharma and detachment.
