No matter who they cast as Claire and Jamie,I fear there will be disappointments. The books are so wonderful and descriptive,no one could hold up to our ideals.

I can't see Gerard Butler as Jamie at all... He doesn't even look like Jamie, since according to Diana Gabaldon he is supposed to resemble male supermodel Gabriel Aubrey (without the blond hair of course). Even if you look at Diana's official website, there's pictures of Jamie from the Outlander graphic novel --- and in there he STILL looks nothing like Gerard Butler. Maybe Gerry could play Dougal instead, no?

@SanvivaTemdrum9 It's Jamie's ghost. At the time when Claire would be brushing her hair, Jamie would obviously be dead, but would have also met and married and loved Claire, even though *she* hasn't met him yet. If you can figure out the whole time travel thing, it kind of works.

One thing I never quite got was the man outside Claire's window... Was in Jamie? If it was, what was he doing there?

@fjellelv As far as the "reddish hair," I think hair dye gives us a lot of flexibility in that area. Otherwise, the choices - esp. in a specific age group - are overly limited.

Someone I never would have thought of, but who is perfect...Keri Russell. Don't stone me...she has really developed into quite the expressive actress if you've seen her in recent movies.

I agree that no one will be "everybody's" ideal Jamie, but I think everyone (or nearly) could agree that he has to be at least 2 things (looks wise). #1 have reddish hair and #2 be very tall (preferably at least 6'4"). Those are the 2 features repeatedly stated throughout the books.

I always see Diane Lane as Claire, but I like this actress as well.
