1950's favorite Topper was sponsored by Camels so naturally the characters in the show light up and discuss the virtues of fine smokes. Looks more like they're smoking crack!

  • He was in North by Northwest....

  • Oh lovely. Sending cigarettes to hospitalized veterans all over the country. You couldn't get away with that today.

  • Winstons are better!

  • Can you imagine how RANCID his breath is? Vomit, vomit, vomit.

  • And, since this was sponsored by Camel, the show continued a tradition started on their radio shows {"THE ABBOTT & COSTELLO SHOW", "THE BOB HAWK SHOW", "CAMEL SCREEN GUILD PLAYERS", "CAMEL CARAVAN", et. al.} during and after World War II: the announcement at the end of the program identifying which military bases and veterans' hospitals received free cartons of Camels the previous week.

  • R.J. Reynolds [Camel] was indeed the primary sponsor of "TOPPER" during its original CBS run (1953-'55)- and as such, Robert Sterling and Anne Jeffreys were required to "light up" during most episodes [even though they were supposed to be ghosts!], and Leo G. Carroll did so on occasion. They also fulfilled the standard requirement for the stars of the show to appear in an "integrated commercial" for the sponsor's product at the end of the episode...such as this one.

  • I guess ghosts can smoke all they want, since they're already dead. Even Mr. Waverly enjoys the occasional coffin nail, now & then.
