  • Tracy, I'm actually from London but worked in CA and WA doing the same type of work. Mostly worked on cedar shingles and redwood siding - but that's exactly how we did it. Also used to use a solution of oxalic acid crystals and water to brighten the decks we power washed - again we stained those the same way you've demonstrated here. There are loads of wood lodges and cabins in Britain nowadays, but the owners will not preserve them properly - so yeah, they'll end up rotting. Jim Reilly
