Originally completely unintentional to do, Andrew hit me up in http://www.xat.com/TPXC one day and asked if I wanted to co-op netplay some TMNT with him, and I freaking love these games so I was all hellz yeah.

And I figured if I'm going to co-op play a game like this, may as well record it cause the game is fun as heck!

On to business....
TMNT IV: Turtles in Time is easily a top-5 beat 'em up of all time.... sadly a dying genre for no explicable/quality reason. Just for reference, games with arguable on-par status would be TMNT 1989 Arcade for the top spot.... Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Castle Crashers, Double Dragon, Simpsons, X-Men... a time when people would go to the arcade and four buddies would pump quarters like mad into these machines for epic and unparalleled gameplay, music, and fun.

Then some how..... the notion of co-op play and the beat 'em up genre have both all but died, and arcades are filled with DDR, racers, and fighting games. Its pretty sad.

Character qualities:
Each character is unique. Various hidden stats like offense, defense, speed, range, special, etc for each turtle do in fact exist.

Offense: Raph, Leo, Mike, Don
Defense: Mike, Don, Leo, Raph
Speed: Raph, Mike, Leo, Don
Range: Donatello, Leonardo, Mike, Raphael
Special: Raph, Mike, Leo, Don

Hope you guys enjoy!

  • haven't watched this yet, but just had to say. great thumbnail :D

  • @Apemopo Lol oh I know its the best. I got a little case of the giggles inside when I saw it xD

  • How could you forget Battletoads when you were listing some of the best beat 'em ups?

  • @EmuMan1490 Cause I don't really consider them that great, they're just an internet meme to go "OH HAY GAEMSTOP DO U HAZ BATTLETOADZ LOLOLOL"

    I've played a handful. They were fun, but I never feel an itch or a nostalgic memory to play them again like I do with the other Beat 'em ups.

    NES version does take the cake on hardest game of all time though.

  • so this is gonna be your new lp series.

  • @bubnow If you count 2 episodes as a series... then sure lol.

see all

  • i like the part where they beat up bad guys

  • ive wanted to do this with you for like 3 years haha

  • "salt power"? wat :D

  • Watching this made me wanna watch TMNT :) Oh the childhood nostalgia..

  • @mtgxerxes You should check out Guardian Heroes if you like beat 'em ups. It was for the Sega Saturn, but it was ported to the XBox 360. It's similar to Castle Crashers, but it has more unique characters and a branching storyline.

  • @TheMaykarLocomotive You two were like Gimli and Legolas out there!

    a) Gimli is a natural born sprinter, Raph is the fastest

    b) Donatello has the most range (obvious)

    c) You two are counting kills

    d) Xerxes likes Gimli the best

    Just an observation,

    Raph = Infernape

    Donatello = Rhyperior

  • Mike Mike Mike is the best for defense... no surprise there.
